The Canadian Rockies: Bears, Lakes, and Mountain Majesty
The Canadian Rockies had been on my bucket list for years, and the reality exceeded every expectation. From the impossibly turquoise waters of Lake Louise to the wildlife encounters along the Icefields Parkway, this corner of Canada delivers nature at its most spectacular.
Banff: Gateway to the Rockies
The town of Banff is charming but the real magic lies beyond. Lake Louise, with its glacier-fed waters reflecting Victoria Glacier, is jaw-dropping even when crowded. For solitude, hit the trails – the hike to Lake Agnes Teahouse rewards effort with alpine tea and mountain views.
The Icefields Parkway
The 230km drive from Lake Louise to Jasper is often called one of the world's most scenic routes, and it doesn't disappoint. Every kilometer brings new waterfalls, glaciers, and wildlife. I spotted grizzly bears, elk, and mountain goats – sometimes all in one afternoon.
Essential Tips
- Parks Pass: Buy the Discovery Pass if visiting multiple national parks
- Bear Spray: Essential for any hiking – and know how to use it
- Sunrise Photos: Lake Louise at dawn, before the crowds, is unforgettable
The Rockies reminded me why wild spaces matter, and why protecting them for future generations is worth every effort.
